Marinella Senatore:
Formatasi in musica, belle arti e cinema, è un’artista multidisciplinare la cui pratica è caratterizzata da una forte dimensione collettiva e partecipativa. Il suo lavoro fonde forme di resistenza, cultura vernacolare e popolare, danza e musica, eventi di massa e attivismo. Ripensando la natura politica delle formazioni collettive, consente ai partecipanti di immaginare e dare avvio a un cambiamento sociale. Intrecciando esperienze autobiografiche dell’artista con le narrazioni dei partecipanti, la sua pratica delinea un racconto collettivo e condiviso che viene espresso non solo con azioni partecipative, ma anche attraverso disegni, collage, oggetti-sculture, fotografie, video, installazioni, opere sonore. Nel 2012 Senatore ha fondato The School of Narrative Dance, una scuola nomade, multidisciplinare e gratuita, incentrata sull’apprendimento e l’emancipazione non gerarchica. Nel luogo dove di volta in volta si svolge, la scuola coinvolge gruppi di individui locali che volontariamente rispondono alla chiamata dell’artista. Include workshop seguiti spesso da azioni pubbliche urbane e/o entro uno spazio espositivo. La sua attività è oggi ampiamente conosciuta in tutta Italia e all’estero, grazie alla partecipazione a numerose mostre, personali e collettive, nei più importanti spazi espositivi internazionali. È la vincitrice della quarta e quinta edizione dell’Italian Council (2018-19), e, tra gli altri e numerosi premi a lei assegnati si menzionano: l’International Art Grant a Dresda, 2017; il Premio MAXXI, 2014; il Premio “Museo Chiama Artista” di AMACI – Associazione dei Musei d’Arte Contemporanea Italiani, 2014; la Borsa per Giovani Artisti del Castello di Rivoli, 2013; la Fellowship presso The American Academy in Rome, 2012; il New York Prize, 2010; la Dena Foundation Fellowship, 2009.

Trained in music, fine arts and film, her practice is characterized by public participation, initiating a dialogue between history, culture and social structures. Rethinking the role of the artist as author and the public as recipient, Senatore’s work merges forms of protest, learning theatre, oral histories, vernacular forms, protest dance and music, public ceremonies, civil rituals and mass events, reflecting on the political nature of collective formations and their impact on the social history of places and communities.
